Harris Has Dancing-Party Energy in Atlanta
While waiting in line for Kamala Harris’s speech in Atlanta on Tuesday, I encountered Tomorrow Wright, a pre-K teacher who had not planned to cast a ballot during Joe Biden’s time as the Democratic nominee.
She remarked, “Biden and Trump, I wasn’t with either of them,” and expressed disappointment in Biden for not taking more action to waive student loan debt. However, Harris had energized her, and she had lined up at noon for her first-ever rally, which wouldn’t begin until nightfall, hiding behind a pink umbrella from the scorching southern heat.
At the Georgia State Convocation Center, where around 10,000 people crowded the stadium in support of Harris, the majority of the people I spoke with claimed they had planned to vote for Biden. However, many informed me they were unable to muster the motivation to do much more for him, such as volunteer or attend events, because of the moribund vibe on the ground.
Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign manager Tammy Clabby, a seasoned Democratic activist, stated, “I’ve campaigned since ’08, and I couldn’t go campaign.” “How could I advise a youth to support Joe Biden when he was unable to complete a sentence during that debate?” That all changed, however, with Harris’s elevation. Clabby likened the atmosphere to that of Barack Obama’s historic first campaign.
I kept hearing this comparison at the exuberant event, which was frequently transformed into a dance party—and not just when Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion appeared on stage. The intense desire among Democrats for a formidable opponent for Trump, their clinging hope for redemption, has united behind a woman who was routinely disregarded and undervalued until a few weeks ago.
Seemingly disoriented by their abrupt turnabout in politics, some conservatives seem to believe that the Democratic Party’s outburst of love for Kamala Harris is a media ploy.
“Is it possible to completely fabricate a cultural phenomenon by using constant gaslighting to transform a vacuous, leftist San Francisco Democrat into someone she’s not?“ Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wrote on social media.
That’s what they ought to keep telling themselves.
