Farooq Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference (NC), declared with confidence on Sunday that the parties will restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir if they win the next assembly elections in the region.

The seasoned lawmaker assured reporters, “National Conference and Congress will ensure that we get our statehood back.”

In response to a comment made the day before by Union Home Minister and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amit Shah, the former chief minister of J&K was speaking. Speaking at a BJP rally in Jammu, Shah charged that the NC and Congress were “misleading” the public about statehood, which he said could only be reestablished by the Centre.

Since May 2014, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, has ruled the nation as a coalition.

Jammu and Kashmir lost its statehood in October 2019, and Ladakh and J&K became new Union territories.

In the meantime, Abdullah asserted that terrorism in the Valley persisted even after Article 370 was repealed.

They claim that terrorism will resume if the NC and Congress take office. I question them: Did terrorism cease when Article 370 was removed? He inquired.
Less than two months after winning a second straight term in office, the BJPled government repealed Article 370 of the Indian Constitution in August 2019. Jammu and Kashmir was granted “special status” under Article 370.

On September 18, 25, and October 1, Jammu and Kashmir will hold its first assembly election since December 2014. On October 8, the day that polls are held in Haryana on October 5, will also be used for the counting of votes.
