Amit Rohidas to Miss Paris Olympics 2024 Semifinal Appeal Denied

Amit Rohidas, India’s key defender and first rusher, will miss the Olympic men’s hockey semifinal against Germany on Tuesday, August 6. An appeal against the one-match suspension for his red card in the quarterfinal match has been turned down by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Thus, India will face the all-important match with a major setback of being without 15 players—something that will be a big blow to the eight-time Olympic champions. Rohidas was given the red card nearly 40 minutes before the final whistle in the last quarter against Britain. He was given the red card as his stick struck an opponent quite inadvertently. He got involved in a midfield tussle with Will Calnan when Rohidas tried to avoid Calnan but ended up hitting his face.

FIH has released a statement in this regard, and it has been confirmed that the appeal from Hockey India has been turned down.

The statement read, “Amit Rohidas was suspended for one match for a breach of the FIH Code of Conduct during the India vs. Great Britain match on August 4.”

This suspension sees Rohidas missing out on match No. 35, India’s semi-final against Germany, which India will now have to play with a squad of just 15 players.

After careful review and consideration, HI’s appeal has been denied, and Amit will not be participating in the semifinal.
