Nepal plane crash: At approximately 11 a.m., a Pokhara-bound aircraft carrying 19 people, including aircrew, had an accident.
Updates on the Nepali plane crash: The Kathmandu Post said that on Wednesday, a plane operated by Saurya Airlines crashed at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, while taking off. According to Premnath Thakur, a TIA representative, 19 people—including aircrew—were on board the aircraft headed for Pokhara when it crashed at around 11 a.m., the article stated.
What is known about the incident involving Saurya Airlines in Nepal
- The aircraft operated by Saurya Airlines was “releasing a significant plume of smoke“ after catching fire, according to news portal Khabarhub.
- Without providing more information, a security guard stationed at the airport informed news agency PTI that the aircraft’s pilot had been transferred to a hospital.
- He also said that the fire that originated from the airplane had been extinguished. At the scene of the collision, rescue efforts are being conducted by police and firefighters. Information regarding the passengers’ conditions was unknown.
- The Himalayan republic’s major tourism destination, Pokhara, was the destination of the Saurya Airlines aircraft.
- On its website, Saurya Airlines states that it only operates Bombardier CRJ 200 aircraft.

However, inadequate maintenance and training have led to poor safety. Due to safety concerns, the European Union has prohibited any carriers from Nepal from using its airspace.

An annual average of one flight tragedy occurs in Nepal. There have been at least 12 fatal jet crashes at the Himalayan destination since 2010, including the most recent one.
A tragic incident occurred in January 2023 when a Yeti Airlines aircraft crashed close to Pokhara, the country’s capital. The disaster claimed the lives of all 72 passengers and staff members on board. As it approached Pokhara, the aircraft broke apart and exploded into flames as it fell into a rocky valley.
All 22 people on board a Tara Air aircraft died in the incident that occurred in the Mustang district on May 29, 2022.
n 2018, a US-Bangla Airlines airplane was involved in a catastrophic accident close to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. Twenty individuals were seriously injured and 51 people died as a result of the jet crash landing.
