Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary is remembered by PM Modi in his honor.
New Delhi: On the 33rd anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi’s passing today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid respect to the former prime minister.
Taking to X, the Prime Minister said, “On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.”
At Veer Bhumi in Delhi on Tuesday morning, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and party MP Rahul Gandhi also honored Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of his 33rd death anniversary.
In the nation’s capital, other Congressmen including Sachin Pilot and P Chidambaram also paid their respects to the former prime minister.
After his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was assassinated in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi assumed leadership of the Congress. At forty years old, he took office as India’s youngest prime minister in October 1984.
His term as India’s prime minister ended on December 2, 1989. Rajiv Gandhi, who was born on August 20, 1944, was killed on May 21, 1991, during an electoral rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a suicide bomber affiliated with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
