The chain of the Tungabhadra dam gate breaks, releasing 35,000 cubic feet of water all at once.

Hospet: At midnight on Saturday, the chain on the 19th gate of the Tungabhadra dam broke, resulting in an abrupt release of 35,000 cubic centimeters of water into the river.

After 70 years, this is the first significant event. According to site officials, rehabilitation work cannot begin until the dam has released about 60 tmc feet of water, or sixty thousand million cubic feet of water. The Tungabhadra dam has thirty-three gates in all.
