Basit Ali, a Pakistani, has voiced doubts about the home team’s chances of winning the ICC Champions Trophy. Ali emphasized the necessity of stricter security protocols and cautioned Pakistan that any security lapse could jeopardize the country’s attempt to host an international cricket competition. In a busy 2024–25 season, former world champions Pakistan will host Test series against West Indies, Bangladesh, and England.

Pakistan has also purchased the right to host the Champions Trophy in 2025 from the International Cricket Council. In the 2017 showpiece event final, Pakistan surprised India to win the coveted trophy. The dates and schedule for the full home season, which included the Champions Trophy spectacle, were released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) last month. Posting his opinions on YouTube, Basit questioned the Pakistani government about “soldiers getting martyred” and forewarned the PCB.

“This location will not host the Champions Trophy, God forbid.”

We have to be concerned about security because the Champions Trophy is in Pakistan and teams like West Indies and England have tours coming up after Bangladesh. Please be assured that if there is an incident during these travels, the Champions Trophy will not be played here. Our men are losing their lives in Peshawar and Balochistan. It’s wrong, but the government is the only one who can explain why it has been occurring,” stated Ali.

“Teams need the same level of protection as the prime minister.”

Pakistan’s home season will start on August 21 with the Bangladesh Test series. According to Basit, visiting teams should have the same level of protection as the president and prime minister of Pakistan. Following the Bangladesh series, Pakistan will welcome England for a three-Test series in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. “We have to make sure there isn’t even a minor security lapse. The international teams ought to have the same level of protection as our president and prime minister. “Mohsin Naqvi will definitely be aware of these things,” he continued.
