Kerala Wayanad landslide tragedy: hundreds are thought to be trapped, and many dead. Helpline numbers issued.

After intense rains, Kerala’s Wayanad district saw terrible landslides that left five people—two of them children—tragically dead. Fear is that hundreds are imprisoned. Due to the landslides, the afflicted areas—Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha—have been seriously damaged and cut off. Rescue efforts are becoming more difficult because to the continuous, intense rain, and many residents worry that there may be more people trapped.

The helplines for the Wayanad landslide tragedy

The Health Department has set up a control center and given two helpline numbers, 9656938689 and 8086010833, to assist anyone in need of emergency assistance.

According to Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, two Air Force helicopters would support the search and rescue efforts. The Chief Minister further emphasized how actively all government departments are taking part in these initiatives. He promised that state ministers would visit Wayanad to supervise and guarantee coordination of the rescue efforts.

The district officials are preparing a plan to evacuate inhabitants from the Mundakkai area, according to a video update from UDF MLA T Siddique. He noted that despite personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) attempting to reach remote places, it remains difficult to gather precise information regarding the missing and fatalities.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has sent NDRF teams to the impacted areas in response to the crisis, and another NDRF team is on its way. In addition, two Kannur Defence Security Corps teams have been directed to assist in the rescue operations.

The rescue efforts are meticulously arranged to optimize productivity and efficacy amongst the demanding meteorological conditions.
