New directive from the Uttar Pradesh government: By August 31st, government workers in the state are expected to list all of their assets, both real and personal, on the “Manav Sampada” portal. Workers who fail to disclose it will not be paid for this month. In the new directive, the Yogi Adityanath government has stated that employees’ chances of being promoted will also be impacted by noncompliance. August of last year saw the issuance of this order. Then, December 31 was the cutoff date for declaring property. The deadline was then repeatedly extended after that. 30 June, followed by 31 July. In the meantime, only 26% of the workers disclosed their assets. The deadline has now been moved up to August 31.

How many workers were there when it was filled?

In Uttar Pradesh, there are presently 17 lakh 88 thousand 429 government workers. Of them, only over 26% of the workers have disclosed information on their assets. This indicates that over 13 lakh workers have not yet disclosed all of their holdings. For individuals who have neglected to turn in the information, the new instruction serves as a deadline. Manoj Kumar Singh, the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, has made it quite clear that only individuals who provide asset details by August 31 would receive payment for the month of August; all other individuals’ salaries will be discontinued. In order to defend this action, the state government said that it “increases transparency and accountability.”

What was said by the minister?

“The measure aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the government,” stated Danish Azad Ansari, a minister for the United Progressive Party. We have a zero-tolerance stance against corruption, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.” The opposition has criticized the action, claiming that the state government’s repeated extensions of the deadline demonstrate its inability to carry out the directive. Ashutosh Verma, a spokesman for the Samajwadi Party, questioned why it wasn’t brought in 2017. This is what the Yogi Adityanath government is doing now that they are behind schedule. They now realize that every single one of their workers is dishonest. They are unable to put it into practice, hence this is a follow-up.”

Information will also need to be provided by secretaries.

All Uttar Pradeshi authorities and workers are required to provide information about their moveable and immovable assets.
The directive issued by the Chief Secretary has been forwarded to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, department heads, and office heads by M Devraj, the Principal Secretary of the Personnel Department. Employees who do not submit these facts will not be given consideration for promotions, per the directive.
